JALANDHAR BANDHA: THROAT LOCK
This is a simple movement that consists of moving your chest toward your chin and your chin toward your chest. This contracts your throat and helps to block the escape of breath and energy through your mouth and nose. In Astanga yoga, you generally perform jalandhar bandha spontaneously as a result of the posture that you are in — for example. in any of the shoulder standing postures (see pages ), when your throat is naturally constricted as a result of the angle between your head and chest. You use a gentle ujjayi breath during jalandhar bandha.
